Home Ec at Home

I was recently asked to think about how the content of the course I teach (Grade 6 Human Ecology) may be infused into other subject areas during temporary remote learning (a current reality for some areas of Manitoba right now). Inspired by the amazing Remote Learning Literacy Menu created by Ms. McLauchlan, I decided to attempt a similar idea with a Human Ecology spin. I have included ideas for where Gr. 6-8 Human Ecology content (from Manitoba) may fit with middle years ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies and Physical Education outcomes.

I have also created a menu of Human Ecology activities for students who are learning remotely to engage in at home in order to deepen their understanding of the roles that Clothing & Textiles and Food & Nutrition play in our lives. These activities could be recorded in a learning log, reflected on as a journal entry (or blog post) or documented visually through photos and videos.

While I realize that middle years Human Ecology may be a niche market, I hope that someone out there finds this helpful. If you do, and you are able to use it please let me know in the comments. I would love your feedback and suggestions!
